## What Landscape Architecture Can Teach Lighting Design – and Vice Versa

In Episode 20 of *Lighting Matters*, Lisa Reed and Morlights CEO, Avraham “Avi” Mor, welcome Rob Reuland, Principal at Chicago’s site design group, for a candid conversation that breaks down the real scope of landscape architecture, and why it’s often misunderstood. 

Rob reflects on his early start in the field and how the work spans far beyond plants: hardscaping, stormwater systems, and even acting as a kind of project therapist between consultants. One major takeaway?

*“We’re really designing for how these places evolve over two, five, 10 years. Not just what they look like on day one.”*

The episode dives into crossover issues between landscape and lighting, from the need for mockups on tree uplighting to the growing case for a new title: *lighting architect*. The trio explore whether lighting design deserves formal licensure like landscape architecture, especially given its impact on public health, safety, and the environment. From harsh Chicago LED streetlight fails to the five principles of responsible outdoor lighting, the conversation is equal parts technical, philosophical and refreshingly honest.
